Global Gold Production and Distribution
According to Gold Fields Mineral Services, world mine gold production in 2008 was 2385 tons or approximately 77 million ounces. The top 15 gold producing countries cumulatively produced approximately 62 million ounces (81% of total global production).

The gold producing companies currently covered by GoldVal.com annually produce approximately 49 million ounces of gold - 64% of estimated global production. All of these companies are listed on the stock exchanges of Toronto, New York, Australia, London and Johannesburg. The total Market Capitalisation of the companies covered by GoldVal.com is some $318 billion.

The Top 20 companies (in Market Capitalisation terms) covered by GoldVal.com produce a total of approximately 40 million ounces annually (including Silver as Gold Equivalent). This production has been split into the following regions:
NAM - North America Region (inc. USA, Canada and Mexico); SAM – South America Region (all countries south of Mexico); EUR – Europe Region; ASI – Asia (inc. Russia / CIS); AFR – Africa; AUP – Australia Pacific Region.

The figures show that, for the Top 20 listed companies covered by GoldVal.com, the Africa Region is the largest producer (including South Africa) - followed by the South American and North America regions. The 3 regions together account for approximately 76% of total world production by the Top 20 Companies.
It should be noted that these statistics give little weight to gold production from China as most of that production is not in companies covered by GoldVal.com. It is intended to give further attention to this.
